Rising Stars Season Recap: Matthew Jackson
Rising Star Matt Jackson displayed his considerable talent during the 2010/11 racing season, qualifying for Feature Races in each of the 13 events he competed in.
Matt earned his first Sydney Speedway Feature Win during the 2010/11 Season, and recently finished runner up in the NSW Speedcar Title, finishing second to Kiwi Michael Pickens.
“I tried my best to run down Micheal Pickens, but he's one of the best in the world and that was never going to be easy, but to run 2nd to him is an honour." Matt commented.
Despite his on track successes, there were still disappointments and missed opportunities.
"My lowlight of the season would have to be contracting food posioning at the start of 2011, which forced me to miss out on a race meeting and put me out of contention for the championship.
"We also had a habit of getting involved in other accidents; in four A-Mains we were eliminated by other drivers making mistakes at unfortunate times."
Jackson definitely displayed increased confidence during the season, making passes at different spots on the track and climbing through fields while keeping his car intact.
"For the future I'll need to work harder on car setup. We're running well on slick tracks, but on the others we still need to find that special setup."
In 2011/12, Matthew will be competing at all Sydney Speedway events (17 in total) and is aiming to compete in the Speedcar Super Series, the Speedcar Australian Title and multiple State Titles:
"We will be workin hard in the off season to try and get a budget to do the extra races."
Matt will also travel to the USA in June for Midget Week and a series of other meetings, attempting to secure a drive and learn about car setup and management.
