Rising Stars Season Recap: Kye Blight
Young West Australian Kye Blight became the first driver to win 3 consecutive GWN/Metabo Series A-Mains during a productive 2010/11 racing season.
Kye raced a selected number of dates during his Modified Sedan rookie season, including 8 rounds of the GWN/Metabo Series. The youngster managed to win 5 feature races along the way.
Kye hoped to put up a good showing at the Western Australian Modified Production Championship, but car troubles hampered his weekend.
"We went into the weekend full of confidence that we had the gear behind us to give it a good shot of winning.
"Unfortunately the awesome car speed we did have was hampered by fuel issues all weekend which wouldn't allow us to show just how quick we were."
Despite the disappointing result at the State Championship, Kye had a productive year, using the skills he learned at the Australian Institute of Sport to improve in the short term, and set goals for next season.
"I feel I really improved upon my ability to deal with the media. After spending the time at the AIS with Wade (Aunger) and Darren (Disbury), I have improved immensely in that area.
"Next season I will really be focussing on my attitude after a poor result. I put alot of pressure on myself because of the time and effort all of my crew put in for me and when I cannot reward them with a good result I get a little to down."
The Blight team plan to contest more events in 2011/12, including the Australian Modified Production Championship, the Victorian Open, all of the GWN/Metabo Series and the WA State Championship.
"We have one more show this year before we will rebuild and put a few ideas we have into the car for next season."
Kye would like to thank Speedway Australia and his sponsors Blight's Auto Electrics, Century Batteries, Bunbury Print, AutoSmart, Poett's Transport and Collie Bin Hire.
"I'd also like to send out a huge thank you to my Mum and Dad, Nan, Grandad, Jaimie, Cody, Jake, Clarky, everyone that comes to the track and helps us out. Also WAMDA, Jase, Mick, Linda and Dave - the list goes on.
"This season has been great and I cant wait for next year."
