Rising Stars Season Recap: Sam Putland
South Australia Lightning Sprint ace Sam Putland enjoyed a successful 2010/11 season on the back of a Speedway Australia Rising Star selection.
Putland won 7 feature races throughout the 18 race meetings he contested, including a triumphant victory at the Victorian Lightning Sprint Championship.
“Coming away from that meeting [at Avalon] as the 2011 Victorian Lightning Sprint State Champion is something I will remember forever,” beamed Putland.
Not content with the Victorian State Championship, Putland managed to emerge victorious in the Murray Bridge Track Championship and the SA-based Lightning Sprint Challenge Series.
“We [the team] are very pleased with the year we have just had.”
Putland attributed his consistency and results to a vastly improved race preparation routine.
“My race preparation has improved this past season especially in relation to nutrition and physical fitness,” reported Putland.
“The food that I consume during the week now and on race days is much more nutritious, and my boxing sessions have been terrific for my fitness levels in the car.”
“I have also found that my mindset has been more focused on the things that are important during a big feature race.”
“In the future I need to work harder at consuming less cordial and more water at racetracks!”
While his plans aren’t set in concrete, the young gun is planning big things to build on a successful 10/11 campaign.
“I’d like to firstly sincerely thank my parents from all their support from day dot, and my terrific sponsors Strathfield Motors, Fuchs, Chook’s Custom Graphics, Heinrich Performance, Woodside Auto Body Repairs, Lightning Karts, Machinery Maintenance Services, C&C Schoell, T&T Gladigau and Albyn Business Services.”
“My Lightning Sprint is currently for sale and plans for the 2011/2012 aren't concrete, but I won't be too far from any Speedway Track!”
