Junior Dirt Modifieds Become Nationally Recognised Junior Open Wheel Category
Speedway Australia and Dirt Modifieds Australia are pleased to announce that Junior Dirt Modifieds have been selected as a new, nationally recognised, junior open-wheeled speedway category.
Dirt Modifieds Australia will sanction the new category, which is targeted at competitors between the ages of 12 and 16. Junior Dirt Modifieds will resemble scaled-down V8 Dirt Modifieds and will be powered by a 600cc motorcycle engine.
Dirt Modifieds Australia President Paul Britten said the new category will offer junior competitors an exciting and safe pathway into open-wheel competition
"The objective of the Junior Dirt Modified category is to provide young competitors with an affordable and safe entry point into open wheel racing, somewhere where they can develop their racing and mechanical skills before graduating to senior classes" said Britten.
"Junior Sedans have been hugely successful in bringing a new generation of competitors into the sport and we hope that Junior Dirt Modifieds can be just as popular"
Paul Trengove, Competition and Operations Manager from Speedway Australia, commented.
"Our current junior categories have gone from strength to strength in the recent years and there is every reason to expect Junior Dirt Modifieds will do the same.
“It is a category that will be fantastic for ensuring that our young future stars have further opportunity to develop race craft and to learn and understand car setup before they enter the senior divisions.”
A number of venues have expressed their support for Junior Dirt Modifieds, and it is expected that demonstration events will take place this coming season before the commencement of racing in 2012/13.
Further information on Junior Dirt Modifieds will be released over the coming months, with prospective competitors asked to contact Dirt Modifieds Australia President Paul Britten on 0411 477 808 or email paul@jbrmotorsport.com.au.
