Rising Star Max Johnston Setting Lofty Goals
Speedway Australia Rising Star Max Johnston will enter the 2011/12 season in search of the team’s first major Sprintcar feature race win. With a new motor on the way and a jam-packed schedule planned, the young New South Welshmen has success in his sights.
“Over the off-season we rebuilt both of our cars, and spent the money to get both of them running the same packages.
"The spare parts are also the same (and new), so it makes life easier at the track. I am still running a Dash 12, but we have a motor being built by Barry Graham that I am really excited about, and can’t wait to get it in the car.”
Johnston knows he has room to improve in his second season in search of big results.
“I would like to improve on my consistency throughout the season. There should be no excuses now, so it’s up to me. I feel that I’m comfortable in the car to go well.
“The goals for this season are very high. The team and I want that first feature win, and I feel that we will be able to get it.
“When I travel I just want to learn, and maybe show people a little of what I have got.”
The 2011 Rising Star will give himself ample opportunity to notch the first victory, planning a busy racing schedule for the season.
“There are about 35 shows we plan on running. We have the gear to do it and the transporter, so we’re crossing our fingers that dollars won’t be a problem and we can have a really good crack.
“We’re planning on running the whole season at Parramatta, aiming to get a great result in the championship. We’d also like to run a few WSS shows, especially round 2 at Dubbo in early December.
“The classic and the Australian title are also on the cards for the team."
Max would like to thank his sponsors for their contributions and support, without which competing would be impossible.
“I would like to thank my new sponsors that have come on board, C & A Mobile, DJS Qualicoaters and Franbridge Distrubutions Sydney. Also a big thanks go out to my sponsors who have stayed with us: Sparco, Camden Signs, Fincar, Johnston Automotive, RADesigns, Jim's Building Serivces and Joust Racewear.”
