Trevor Harding Selected As 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star
West Australian Speedway ace Trevor Harding has been selected as a 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star.
The 23 year old from Perth sports an impressive list of achievements in Speedway, both on two wheels and four, and will step into the sport's premier category in 2012 as a part of the brand new Harding Racing Sprintcar Team alongside brother Daniel.
Daniel Harding was a part of the 2011 Speedway Australia Rising Star Program, and was a major motivation for Trevor's desire to join the program.
"After my brother Daniel was accepted into the program last year, we've seen a change in how he goes about his racing," said Trevor, "and it has taken ability to another level. Daniel has helped me immensely with what he learnt last year."
Harding may be stepping into Sprintcars as a rookie, but he is no stranger to success. After beginning his motorsport journey in motocross, Trevor raced junior solos until 2002, twice earning the title of WA Champion and winning the Australian Title. For the next 5 years, Trevor competed as a Speedway rider on two wheels across Europe and Australia before crushing 3 vertebrae in his back.
In 2009, Trevor returned to Speedway, collecting feature race wins and accolades alongside brother Daniel in the Formula 500 category.
Trevor is aiming high in 2012 as the team aims to be competitive during WA's major Sprintcar race meetings such as World Series Sprintcars and the Krikke Boys Shootout.
"My on track goal is to make and finish every A main I enter," said Harding, "I believe that goal is very achievable, but also challenging when World Series Sprintcars and other big meetings like the Krikke boys shootout and WA Title come to town."
"Off track goals consist of marketing the team, our team partners and myself. I also have a goal away from the racetrack, that is to work on my physical and mental strength through training and nutrition."
Participants in the 2012 Rising Star Program will travel to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra during the first half of the year for an intensive 3 day camp with Australia's best sporting trainers and experts.
