Callum Zizek Selected As 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star
Callum Zizek, of Launceston Tasmania, has been selected as a 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star.
Callum is a passionate motorsport enthusiast, and despite being only 17 years of age has had a long motorsport career already.
Beginning his career in a go kart at age 9, Callum won many champoinships and competed on the Australian mainland in several race meetings during a successful 7 year stint. In November 2010, Callum was offered the opportunity to drive a Sprintcar, an opportunity he couldn't refuse.
"I consider myself very privileged to have been given the opportunity in November 2010 to have my debut drive for DB Goodyer Developments racing in a Sprint car," Callum beamed. "I managed an A-main finish (on debut)."
Since that impressive debut, Callum has achieved consistent top 5 finishes in A Main feature races and even an appearance on the podium. During his second season piloting the T10 sprintcar, Zizek has worked tirelessly with his team to improve, an effort that saw him climb to 3rd place in the Farmers Union Iced Coffee Sprintcar Series at the end of 2011.
In the new year, Zizek travelled to the Sprintcar Classic before impressing fans at the Australian Sprintcar Title with some excellent heat racing. Callum also competed at the President's Cup and the King's Challenge. The youngster hopes competing against the best will help him improve his race craft and will be learning from the best.
"DB Goodyer Developments Team brought Craig Dollansky to two of the major events and I was ecstatic and honoured to have him as my mentor and team mate, and have gained valuable tips from one of the best."
Callum hopes to use his time as a 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star to further his racing career by capitalising on the support and networking opportunities he will receive, which in turn will help him reach his goal of competing on the World of Outlaws circuit.
" I have a dream to be one day racing in the World of Outlaws series in America, and with my sponsors and crew behind me 100% I am on my personal pathway to achieving this dream."
Participants in the 2012 Rising Star Program will travel to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra during the first half of the year for an intensive 3 day camp with Australia's best sporting trainers and experts.
