Josh Fort Selected As 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star
Josh Fort, of Geelong Victoria, has been selected as a 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star.
Josh's Speedway debut came at age 13, when the youngster piloted a Datsun Sunny on the Victorian Junior Sedan circuit. The team travelled to many events and tracks around Victoria, leading to a number of impressive results, a Best Presented Car Award and a 1st place in the Avalon Club Championship in 2007/08.
in 2008, the Fort family sold Josh's Junior Sedan, leading to 2 full season's out of the sport. With his passion for Speedway still very much alive, Josh dedicated his weekly wages to getting back to racing, purchasing a rolling chassis and aiming to compete in the Formula 500 division.
"After selling my junior sedan, we had two full seasons off racing. I purchased a second hand roller and dedicated my weekly wages to racing formula 500s"
Not afraid of hard work, Josh has his sights set on success in 2011/12.
"My short term goals in Formula 500s is to run consistently at the front of the field anywhere i race; this past season out of 10 meetings I made 8 A mains," said Josh. "Just recently we purchased a brand new XXX roller, we currently have 4 engines in devolpment and we have ordered a 36-foot Gooseneck trailer to haul both my cars around to each meeting."
"We've also secured a well known crew chief to assist me in car maintenance and setup for the whole season."
Fort's long term goals include competing in America within the next 2 years, and graduate to Sprintcars within the next 5.
Josh is hoping his time in the Speedway Australia Rising Star Program can help him achieve his full racing potential to supplement his already impressive marketing and sponsor support efforts.
Participants in the 2012 Rising Star Program will travel to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra during the first half of the year for an intensive 3 day camp with Australia's best sporting trainers and experts.
