NSSS Championship Chase is On
Following round eight of the 2011/2012 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series at Carrick Speedway in Tasmania, the championship paused for several weeks to accommodate several blue ribbon events and give teams a chance to refresh and regroup in preparation for the inaugural Lukey Mufflers Western Shootout next month.
The Lukey Mufflers Western Shootout will be the first ever NSSS foray into Western Australia, with three rounds of competition to be staged at Kalgoorlie Speedway (March 7), Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway (March 9) and the Perth Motorplex (March 10).
In a move akin to the format used in NASCAR racing, the NSSS championship points have been reset heading into the Lukey Mufflers Western Shootout, ensuring that every driver making the long haul across the Nullarbor is a genuine chance at securing the crown.
The recalculation of the championship points sees the championship leader awarded 4000 points, with each subsequent position separated by just 25 points.
With an additional 25 points allocated for every round win thus far, Steve Jordan, Darren Kane and Brad Smith now share the lead in the championship chase.
In fact, with nine drivers separated by less than 200 points, the championship is wide open and every contracted driver is back in contention.
The field for the NSSS western swing includes representatives from every other Australian state in what will be the strongest gathering of Super Sedan talent in Western Australia for many years.
The 13 contracted drivers taking on the challenge of the Lukey Exhausts Western Shootout are Steve Jordan, Darren Kane, Brad Smith, Dave Gartner, Wayne Randall, Lachlan Onley, David Nichols, Michael Nicola, Lucas Roberts, Bill Miller, Shane Best, Des Korn and Graeme Elliott.
