Ryan Jones Captures Fourth 360 Sprintcar Title In Murray Bridge
Ryan Jones rewrote history on Sunday when he became the first driver to win four Australian 360 Sprintcar Championships after expertly maneuvering himself to a dramatic win at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway.
After finishing second in the Preliminary A-main Saturday night, Jones turned the tables on his main rival Craig Vanderstelt, capturing his fourth title in only six attempts.
It was also the second time that he had managed to win the title back to back.
“I can’t believe that I am a four time Australian Champion," beamed Jones. "I can't thank my guys enough, starting with my Mum and Dad, who put me in a go-kart when I was four years of age, my Brother Scott, my Crew Chief Steve Englehardt, who once again gave me a great car, XXX Chassis and Pete from PM Race Engines who once again proved that he builds the strongest 360 engine out there.”
Throughout the weekend Ryan was the pace setter winning three of his four heat races, finishing second in the Preliminary A-main before winning the Australian Championship on Sunday.
“I have to give Craig a lot of credit; we raced clean all weekend and that final was a lot of fun," praised Jones. "We ran wheel to wheel for laps on end and we never touched once. I have great respect for Craig. We may not be on each other’s Christmas card list, but we had a real clean and enjoyable race.”
