Australian Championship Podium Finish For Rising Star Brendan Guerin
Fresh from the Speedway Australia Rising Star AIS Camp in Canberra, Brendan Guerin completed an impressive third place finish in the 360 Sprintcar Australian Championship at Murray Bridge.
Starting from 7th on the grid, the 22 year old from Broken Hill remained focussed throughout and turned in a fast, controlled and consistent 40 laps to finish on the podium.
"I didn't get sidetracked at all during the race," commented Brendan. "During the session with Vicki De Prazer at the AIS (Sports Psychology), focus was something identified as a strong attribute for me and I definitely maintained my concentration Saturday, especially having never had a race longer than 30 laps before."
As a 2012 Speedway Australia Rising Star, Brendan was one of 8 participants in the AIS Camp to be educated by various experts about what it takes to be a successful elite athlete.
"I really can't speak highly enough of the program," continued Brendan, "Wade [Aunger] and Darren [Disbury] were terrific and gave us fantastic ideas and insight into marketing ourselves to the media and potential sponsors, and changing my nutrition an race day certainly helped during the race Saturday night."
The education sessions and camp environment also gave each of the Rising Stars the opportunity to learn from their peers.
"I had only met Jarman [Dalitz] before, so it was good to meet such a good group of lads. We all got along quite well, and had the chance to bounce ideas off one another during the session with Wade and Darren."
Brendan and the 7 Day Spares Racing Team have recently launched a Facebook fan page for the team (link: https://www.facebook.com/7DaySparesRacing) and are planning to develop a website to raise the team's exposure.
"I'd like to thank my sponsors, 7 Day Spares and Accessories, Century Batteries, Jade Signs, Broken Hill Heavy Haulage/Silver City Crash, Mocare SA (AUTOKING), Penrite Oils, SP Tools and Broken Hill Foodland. They help to make all of this possible and have been very supportive of me and the team."
