Jess Moulden Creates History As First Ever Female Formula 500 Australian Champion
Jessica Moulden created her own slice of history over the Easter weekend, becoming the first ever female Formula 500 Australia Champion at Laang Speedway.
After starting on the outside of the front row, Moulden assumed second place behind pole sitter Brock Hallett. With the front markers setting a cracking pace on a super fast, slick surface, Hallett was the first car to bring on the yellows when he spun the Q13 on the 4th turn of the first lap.
The restart allowed Moulden to briefly claim the lead before being overtaken, but race leader Will Carroll would bring on another yellow when he spun in heavy traffic 7 laps later.
After the restart, Moulden battled for the lead with James Aranyosi, eventually executing a pass in lapped traffic and holding on for the win.
After a gruelling 35 laps, Moulden was crowned the new Australian Formula 500 Champion. Aranyosi was able to hold on for 2nd with Hallett racing his way into 3rd.
