Stainer Races To 7th Vic Compact Speedcar Championship
In February 2012, Danny Stainer raced to his 7th Victorian Compact Speedcar Championship at Wangaratta Speedway. The Victorian Title also doubled as Round 1 of the 2012 Xtreme Racing Series.
The event was supported by a Speedway Australia Grass Roots Event Grant.
Opening heats were frantic with Stainer, both Astrellas, Day, Wolley, Eyeington, Griffiths, McMinn, Gordon and Hecker all showing top form and putting themsleves in contention for a championship victory.
Rob Gordon and Stainer earned the right to start the A Main from the front row of the grid, kicking off an exciting 30 lap feature race to crown the 2012 Victorian Champion. Gordon jumped out to an early lead in the V11 car as Stainer shadowed his every motion waiting for a passing opportunity.
A yellow light would bring the field back together with laps winding down, setting the stage for a final duel between the two pace setters.
Gordon briefly maintained first place after a fast getaway, but Stainer managed to reel the leader in and complete a pass to take the chequered flag for the 7th time.
