Jarrod Harper Wins Thrilling 2012 Australian Super Sedan Championship
The Australian Super Sedan Title, held at SuperCheap Auto Archerfield Speedway, will go down as one of the all time great races, with Jarrod Harper of Tasmania winning an absolute thriller.
Harper took the lead on lap thirty nine (of forty) to defeat Lachlan Onley, who had paced the field from the outset and looked set to secure the victory. Matt Pascoe, Wayne Randall and Dustin Higgs rounded out the top five.
Darren Kane and Mark Pagel were the race's only retirements, tangling with each other early in the fray. All other starters finished the final, with seventeen of those on the lead lap.
The large Brisbane crowd could not have known they were about to witness one of the all time great races when Onley led the pack from the outset, but while positions at the front of the field were holding firm, Matt Pascoe began his march through the field.
Climbing to third place (from 11th) by lap 15, Pascoe made several spectacular passes around the outside of the track, displaying the form that helped him capture an NSSS Championship in 2010.
Meanwhile, Harper was eroding Onley's commanding lead, and by the half way mark Pascoe was hot on their heels to set up the classic run home.
In the closing stages Wayne Randall made it a four-way fight as the leaders struggled to pass back markers on a crowded track.
Harper hit the lead with two laps to go as Onley, Pascoe and Randall all took turns trying to pass in a desperate finish. The four crossed the line separated by 1.413 seconds in a National Title that took only 11m:11.991s to conduct.
