Josh Michelmore Is Top Formula 500s SA Rookie After Opening Round
Josh Michelmore finished sixth at Murray Bridge's season opening race meeting, claiming the mantle of top rookie in Formula 500s South Australia's Rookie of the Year Championship after one round.
Formula 500s in South Australia are experiencing a boom in season 12/13, with around half a dozen new drivers entering the category to boost the local numbers. The influx of talent is a welcome addition to a number of new drivers that entered the category late last season.
The increase in competitors has made the Championship possible, along with the support from Speedway Australia and its Grass Roots Event Grant Scheme.
Fellow rookies Lisa Walker and Latisha Helya finished seventh and tenth respectively, placing them second and third in the Rookie Championship after one round.
Other rookies on hand were Shaun Brown and Rory Stevenson, who both failed to finish.
The next round of the series will be held at Murray Bridge Speedway when the Formula 500s hit the clay on November 10 2012.
More information and regular updates are available via the Formula 500s South Australia Facebook page.
A limited number of Grass Roots Event Grants are available each year to support events that promote the growth of Speedway through grass roots participation.
