NASR Rising Star To Contest World Series Round
NASR Rising Star Callum Williamson first stepped into a Go Kart at the tender age of 8, with a dream of one day racing Sprintcars against the best drivers in Australia. On February 18 2011, Callum will take his first step toward fulfilling that dream when he competes in Round 16 of World Series Sprintcars at Perth Motorplex.
Williamson, now 17, began racing 360 Sprintcars only last season. In that short time he has pocketed the SAWA Rookie Of The Year award, as well as becoming the first Motorplex Track Champion for the division. This season he has stepped up to 410 Sprintcars.
Simply being part of the WSS field is a dream come true for Callum, but the youngster is keeping a level head in the lead-up to the race:
"We always set out to try and finish each heat and make the final and this meeting will be no different. I am getting a far better understanding of the car and the way the track changes during the night so this will be another night of learning.
"Just to be part of the World Series is a real buzz for me and it will be the biggest field I have competed in, I just can't wait."
The next World Series Sprintcars round will be in Bunbury, the second stop of a four-round Western swing. The series will then head to Manjimup before moving onto Perth, where Callum will make his World Series Sprintcars debut in the W 73 car.
Callum will be accompanied by his father, as well as friends and crewmen Lee Nash and Paul Somerville.
"I am really lucky to have the support of so many mates and that drives me a lot."
Callum is proudly supported by Michael Patience of Patience Bulk Haulage, Gary Olsen of Precision Camps and Equipment, Oil Vac of Australia and Andrew of Kosteki Engine Centre.
In 2011, The NASR Rising Star Program will give the opportunity for young drivers to improve themselves in a range of areas including fitness training, psychology and marketing and media training, which will assist them in formulating a pathway to achieve their speedway dream.
