NASR Rising Star: Kye Blight
NASR is proud to announce the sixth participant to be selected for the 2011 NASR Rising Star Program, Kye Blight of Katanning, Western Australia.
Hailing from the small country town of Katanning WA, Kye has been around Speedway for most of his life and began competing in Junior Sedans during 2006. Like many Speedway competitors, Kye’s father and grandfather raced Speedway - even his girlfriend Jaimie is a driver.
Kye won his debut race in Junior Sedans, and even went on to take out the event’s feature race. In 2008, Kye progressed to Production Sedans, becoming the youngest ever WA State Champion at age 16. In 2009-10, Kye dominated his Production Sedan opponents at Narrogin, placed 2nd in the State Title and was the highest qualifier in the Australian Title before succumbing to technical difficulties.
Currently racing Modified Sedan’s, Kye plans to use his experience as a NASR Rising Star to learn more about promoting himself to acquire more sponsors as well as learning about the fitness, training and nutrition aspects of being an athlete.
UPDATE: On Saturday 12th February, Kye won Round 6 of the GWN Metabo Series at Esperance Speedway after starting out of position 4 in the Feature Race. Kye currently stand 4th in points with 3 rounds remaining.
In 2011, The NASR Rising Star Program will give the opportunity for young drivers to improve themselves in a range of areas including fitness training, psychology and marketing and media training, which will assist them in formulating a pathway to achieve their speedway dream.
